For nervous patients, we offer dental sedation.

Wash Common Dental

We understand some people are particularly nervous when they visit the dentist. This may put them off visiting altogether, or when they need major work carried out, it can feel like a very frightening experience.

Here at Wash Common, we understand that many patients experience genuine anxiety when visiting the dentist, and we have therefore developed a number of techniques to help.

If you would like more information about dental sedation, please feel free to call us on 01635-45876.

Frequently asked questions

What is sedation?

Sedation dentistry involves Intravenous sedation (an injection). This is an effective way of helping even the most nervous of patients cope when they need to visit the dentist. The drugs used have a relaxing and calming effect while still allowing you to communicate with your dentist so that treatment can be carried out effectively.

How will I be affected?

Sedation allows you to remain lucid enough to communicate and cooperate with the dental team, but you will become drowsy and unaware of the treatment you are undergoing – making the experience far less traumatic for you.

The effects of the sedative will take 24 hours to wear off, so it’s important to avoid alcohol, driving or operating any machinery during this time. A chaperone must escort you to and from your appointment and be able to care for you for the next 24 hours.

Will I ever feel comfortable visiting the dentist?

As with anything, the more you go to the dentist, the more comfortable and relaxed you will feel when doing so. It helps to go to the same practice and see the same dentist every time because this helps you to build up trust and gradually you will start to feel less and less anxious every time you go.
