Veneers are a cosmetic treatment and has become hugely popular in recent years.

Veneers are very thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials which cover the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance.

Veneers predominantly only cover the fronts of teeth, compared to crowns, which cover a whole tooth. Underlying teeth and gums must be healthy and disease-free before carrying out this treatment.

Veneers are not recommended for severely misaligned teeth, as veneers can end up being bulky and destructive in these scenarios. Your dentist may suggest having orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® (Clear Aligners) to straighten teeth before veneer preparation.

Why choose veneers?

Reasons for veneers:

  • To improve the overall appearance of your teeth.
  • They can change the colour, shape, size and length of natural teeth. Some people opt for just one or two veneers, whereas others go for a full set if they’re looking to completely transform their smile.
  • To correct poorly formed or mildly mal-positioned teeth.
  • To close any minor gaps.
  • To mask internal stains.
  • To restore partially broken-down teeth.

Frequently asked questions

How long will treatment take?

Usually, two visits are required. The first appointment involves preparing the tooth or teeth and establishing a perfect colour match. On your second visit, the veneer will be bonded using a special adhesive which holds it firmly in place.

Please note that because it’s necessary to remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to create space for the veneer, this is an irreversible treatment.

Before your veneer is bonded, however, your dentist will show you what it looks like on your tooth to make sure that you’re completely happy with it.

How much will it cost?

The cost of veneers can vary hugely depending on the treatment required and how many you would like. We will always give you a final cost before starting any dental work.

How long do veneers last?

Practising good dental hygiene at home as well as visiting your dentist and hygienist on a regular basis will prolong their life and ensure they remain healthy and look aesthetically pleasing.

Just like natural teeth, veneers can chip or break. They can be repaired, or if the damage is more severe, a new one can be fitted.
